Electro-Voice and Dynacord equipment are used to help tell the story of Jhansi Fort in
northern
India. Located in Jhansi Smart City, the historic fortress has a storied history which is now
celebrated through an immersive sound and light show. The display uses the fort itself as the canvas
for the visuals, while a powerful audio solution was required to cover the large audience area.
Jhansi Fort was originally built in the 17th century and saw heavy fighting during the Indian Mutiny
of 1857-1858. To highlight this while educating visitors, the fort's 30-minute sound and light show
depicts the life and death of Lakshmi Bai, the 22-year-old rani (queen) of Jhansi, who died fighting
the British East India Company during the rebellion. She is said to have tied her son to her back,
jumped on a horse, and galloped to safety when the sprawling Jhansi Fort fell into the hands of the
British.
The attraction uses a 270-degree, 83m-wide projection-mapped canvas on the walls of the hilltop
fort, which was created by systems integrator, Pan Intellecom. A powerful 5.1 audio solution
from
Electro-Voice and Dynacord was selected to complement the spectacular visuals while also providing a
sense of immersion for the audience.
High output models of Electro-Voice and Dynacord ensure that a large audience area can be covered at
the Jhansi Fort
The 5.1 surround sound system relies on 12 Electro-Voice Sx600 high output two-way
loudspeakers
supported by four EVF-2151D dual 15"front-loaded subwoofers. Power for the solution is via
eight
Dynacord L3600FD 2 x 1800 W DSP power amplifiers. Selecting these high output models ensures
that a
large audience area can be covered. Meanwhile, the audio quality means that visitors are fully
immersed in the show.
The main challenge for the project came from the truncated timescale to deliver the solution rather
than the technical requirements. The initial project timeline was shortened by two months to ensure
the production would be ready to show India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who was visiting Jhansi
Smart City. Fortunately, Pan Intellecom team was able to work day and night alongside other
contractors to ensure the new deadline was hit.
"The high output solution perfectly complements the stunning visuals to help tell the story of
Lakshmi Bai and has become a spectacularly successful endeavor for the city," said Sankalp
Srivastava, AGM of projects for Pan Intellecom. "We were able to design a world-class audio
experience with a range of products from Electro-Voice and Dynacord family. It acts as a beacon of
knowledge, informing people and tourists about the historical significance of the queen's valor and
her participation in the revolt of 1857. Additionally, it serves as a strong tourist spot, enhancing
the local economy and promoting a strong sense of pride in and kinship with Jhansi's cultural
history."
"I would like to congratulate Pan Intellecom for the wonderful job that they have done," concluded
Abhishek Khurana from Jhansi Smart City Limited. "From the point of view of Jhansi Smart City
Limited, I would also like to welcome tourists from abroad and all across the country to come and
enjoy the show."
