PRODUCT FOCUS OF THE MONTH

AV Integrated Systems Magazine introduces ‘Product of the month’. Each month, the magazine will highlight one link (read product category) from the Audiovisual integration chain and this issue’s selection is “Amplifiers”. Choosing the right amplifier for your specific needs may get complicated. Manufacturers are introducing various series of models with features, which include, varying output power capabilities, low latency, flexible in/out connectivity etc. thereby accommodating a wide range of installation environments. This list, which is intended to be a guide, highlights six such models, but does not endorse any product.

Dynacord - IPX10:4

IPX series are dedicated amplifiers for fixed install application such as e.g. stadiums, arenas, houses of worship, concert halls, theaters and other applications that require high‑power multichannel amplifiers with sophisticated speaker processing. Dynacord’s IPX 10:4 uses high efficiency Eco Rail technology for lower operating costs. The integrated DSP can run either in 48 kHz or true 96 kHz including FIR-Drive. Besides analog inputs also Dante and OCA via OMNEO network inputs are available. Comprehensive fallback options allow redundant scenarios. Each channel can be individually operated in low impedance mode or 70V/100V Direct Drive mode. By bridging also 140V/200V Direct Drive is available. By the possibility to parallel two channels and parallel‑bridge four channels, all kind of loudspeakers can be driven. Due to the digitally controlled interleaved PFC supply reliable operation is ensured even under challenging mains supply situations. Reactive current is limited to a minimum, which reduces costs for mains installations and mains fusing in the installation. In the case of idle mode or light mode operation, IPX series amplifiers automatically switch to a lower Eco Rail further reducing operating costs. In Eco Mode, the amplifiers stay fully functional and supervised. While IPX series amplifiers are fully integrated into IRIS‑Net, an OLED display on the front panel allows quick local control and supervision of the amplifier. The connectivity of IPX series amplifiers is optimized for fixed install applications.

Extron - XPA

Extron has introduced the XPA Ultra line of power amplifiers, an engineering breakthrough that provides the ability to put more amplifier channels in a smaller space, with less radiated heat, than ever before. All XPA Ultra amplifiers run cooler than other Class D amplifiers, extending component life and eliminating the need for ventilation rack space. The XPA Ultra lineup includes a new and improved ultra-fast wake up from standby to ensure the beginning of audio is not cut off. An everlasting power supply, professional grade signal-to-noise ratio, ultra-low inrush current, and our patented CDRS - Class D Ripple Suppression, are also part of the Extron technology found inside every XPA Ultra amplifier. These ENERGY STAR qualified amplifiers deliver 35 watts or 100 watts per channel into 8 and 4 ohms or 70 volt systems. The XPA Ultra lineup of UL 2043 plenum rated amplifiers include single and side by side rack mount hardware and a newly designed rear panel that makes installing the optional Flexible Conduit Adapter Kit easier than ever. Recessed, detente level controls with laser etched markings provide enhanced visibility and repeatability of settings.

Crestron - AMP-8150

Crestron Avia AMP-8000 series amplifiers are designed to complement the Avia family of digital signal processors and are well-suited for all types of commercial audio applications. Each model furnishes eight channels of clean, efficient amplification in a space-saving 1 RU rack-mountable chassis. Each channel is configurable for Lo-Z or Hi-Z operation, as well as stereo and bridged modes. Network connectivity enables configuration, monitoring, and control via the Avia Audio Tool software, a Crestron control system, or Crestron Fusion. The advanced Class D technology maximizes efficiency to reduce power consumption and heat dissipation. An internal universal power supply with power factor correction ensures consistent performance with varying line voltages. The AMP-8150 model delivers 150 watts per channel into 4 or 8-ohm “Lo-Z” loads. Each channel is individually configurable via software for use with “Hi-Z” distributed speaker systems. Adjacent pairs of channels may be configured for stereo or bridged operation. Stereo mode enables remote control of a stereo pair of speakers using a single set of controls. The bridged mode allows two channels to be combined to provide a single channel delivering 300 watts into 8 ohms. Two versions of the AMP-8150 are offered. The namesake AMP-8150 model supports 4/8 ohm and 70V output and operates on 100-120V AC line power. The “international” AMPI-8150 model supports 4/8 ohm and 100V output and operates on 220-240V AC line power. Both models feature professionally balanced inputs and support input signal levels up to +24 dBu. Rear panel input attenuation controls allow for signal level matching. Remote level control and monitoring is enabled using the Avia Audio Tool software or using a touchscreen control panel or mobile device through integration with a Crestron control system. Integration with a control system also enables centralized monitoring and control of multiple amplifiers throughout a facility as part of a Crestron Fusion managed the enterprise.
